On February 28th, The Reading Room celebrated it's second birthday!

The SANMAN Foundation is ecstatic to introduce artists Phalyn Honora, Kaelyn Provost, and Corey De'Jaun Sherrard Jr. as the new artists-in-residency for 2025.

The See A Need-Meet A Need Foundation is thrilled to announce an open call for the 2025 SANMAN Artist Residency in partnership with FLATS, an artist-run photography space. Applications are open to artists working in all types of media, with one spot reserved for a lens-based artist. Three artists will be selected.

On Saturday, January 18th, SANMAN hosted an artist talk with Morgan Newton. During this conversation, the two artists discussed pieces featured in “The South Got Somethin’ To Say” and the many influences that led Newton to creating this exhibit.

On December 7th, 2024, Sanman Studios began the showing of “The South Got Somethin’ To Say” by Morgan Newton. Morgan Newton is a Houston based conceptual artist who explores her familial roots with a style drenched in surrealism and boldness. Her solo exhibition, “The South Got Something To Say” showcases multiple pieces that dive into themes surrounding Black southern culture, nostalgia, and Black womanhood. Morgan’s art feels like a song you’ve only heard in your childhood, emanating a sense of reverie for the past and taking note of the importance of the culture that comes before us. Newton’s works are dreamlike and bold and consist of sentimental collages and serene paintings

See A Need - Meet A Need hosted Black Girls in Art Spaces Houston Chapter. The event featured a guided tour of Chayse Sampy's "I Am, Because You Are", held at Sanman Studios.

See A Need, Meet a Need Foundation hosts Houston Poet Laureate Aris Kian for To Pimp a Butterly listening session, in collaboration with The Reading Room.

On Thursday, September 12th, SANMAN hosted an artist talk with Chase Sampy, facilitated by Amarie Gipson. During her artist talk, Chase discussed the pieces featured in her exhibition "I Am, Because You Are" and talked about some of the factors that influenced her work.

Returning for the installment of their lighting workshop, Brent McCoy II and Chino Angles led a lighting workshop that focused on creative lighting in studio, modifiers, setups, and using multiple light sources.

The first installment of The SANMAN Academy launched Sunday, March 24th. The first installment was The Production Playbook: An Interactive Learning Experience guided by Tannis Spencer of micole creative studios.

Sanman Studios served as a Black Art Houston location for BAH, 2/17 - 2/19.

On January 13, 2024, Sanman Studios began the showing of EVERYTHING IN COLOR by NELXART. Shanel Gaskin, also known as "NELXART," is a visual artist from Houston who vividly brings her inner world to life through imaginative paintings. Her debut solo exhibition, "EVERYTHING IN COLOR," showcases over 30 artworks influenced by popular culture, fashion, and her personal experiences. Nel's art radiates confidence and an evolving sense of security, attributes mirrored in the mostly female figures she paints, notable for their introspective gaze. Her works, a blend of abstraction and figuration, are executed in a highly stylized manner on canvas.
